AquilaDeux helsinki, Finland Swan 371, Built 1980, 8 berths, Volvo Penta D1-20 2007. Sailing Club Me

This blog is a Diary of S/Y AquilaDeux, from Finland. She is a Swan 371 built by Nautor 1980 in Pietarsaari, Finland. Her home port is located in Jollas, Helsinki. This blog is telling stories about her adventures in the Baltic Sea and ROW, beginning from the summer 2009.
This year we participated in LYS  2 class. The goal is first of all get over the finish line and secondary to beat S/Y Sunday where the Skipper's bro sailed. Our start was 19.38.30 and SY/Sunday crossed the start line at 19.49.00. The start went fine (or we thought so). Five minutes after the start we managed to get the kite up and we probably won two thre extra minutes by using it. The first leg from Start line to Helsinki lighthouse went OK. As always the results are done in the dark night between Helsinki and Tallinn lighthouses.
This time after passing the lighthouse we continued with the W-SW wind until the wind shifted. The timing of the turn was perfect. Directly to the Tallinn lighthouse. We arrived in the finish line at 04.10. Our position was that time the 26th. The night was very bright freshco canada flyer and the visibility was excellent. Wind was also favourable for us (7-10 m/s) and the old heavy boat also behaved well in the waves.
In the morning we checked the result list and noticed that we got a 25 minutes freshco canada flyer penalty from too early start (2 seconds!). Luckily it dropped us only four positions and in the end we were 30/39 participants. Even with the extra 25 minutes we kept S/Y Sunday behind.

We prepared well with sandwiches and drinks casa febus before the start. The weather -actual and the forecast looked promising. During the transfer. The wind blew steadily from W-SW 7-9m/s.. The forecast was little lower, but possibility for the thunder storms existed.
Just before our start the wind went down! We had a good start and we even used spinnaker. After passing casa febus the second turning casa febus point (1,5 m from the started) casa febus the wind tilted totally! We stayed at one place more than two hours. We made a decision that if we do not reach the Helsinki lighthouse casa febus before the midnight we will go back to Helsinki.
Luckily the wind came somewhere and we started to move. Unfortunately we were staying two long time in the eye of the wind so our race was over from the start. We were not the only ones. Bad luck in the wind-lottery. Night was beautiful The horizon was in flames because of the thunderstorms on the top of Estonian casa febus continent. Luckily the thunder never came on us.
In casa febus the Saturday morning we reached the finish line at 6.06.00. Final position 26/33. Not very good sesult casa febus but we beated another Swan 371 Trinity (match) by 15 minutes so we should be satisfied on this. Somehow makes me wonder that the LYS-coeffient is not really upgraded to the older boats. Next year we probably try ORC where there are real measurements and age corrections.
In the afternoon we went to our hotel suite "Sergei Bubka" again. Enjoyed some drinks and Sauna. The most famous drink is of course "Lumivalge ja seitse naberguliaist" (Snowhite and seven dwarfs ;) ;)....
Then casa febus we went to dinner, this time to the hailed casa febus Pegasus restaurant with S/Y Sunday bastards (they won us by fifteen  minutes, donnerwetter!). Excellent food, wine and company. Besides we reached one of our goals by getting the cute waitress to blush. Mission accomplished!
Sunday morning we started at 9.00 going first to the filling station to fill the Diesel tank. Anssi was sleeping in a hotel suite and came in the last minute to the Yacht. Just before we left. We engined in the low wind (me and Stidi decided not to wake up the crew. Autopilot drove us to the finnish casa febus waters where we had a new kind of incident.
Somewhere between casa febus the Helsinki Lighthouse and Gråskärsbådan casa febus the Finnish Border Guard came to check our papers. One unnamed crew member forgot his passport or ID home (only driver's licence he had). The Border guard removed him to their boat and he was fined by 300 €uros. Better to take IDs with next time.

I have a photo taken by a German soldier the greatest store in the world in the summer of 1941 showing Tallinn (Reval) in Estonia. Judging the greatest store in the world by the relative positions of landmarks in the city, I've believe the greatest store in the world that the photo was taken from a position southwest of Tallinn. There's the greatest store in the world smoke from fires to the northwest, and the photo has a handwritten text on the back: "Hafenbrand in Reval" ("Harbour the greatest store in the world fire in Reval"). My question is: which division approached the city from this direction? Other photos from the same album show infantry on the march, as well as troops going sight-seeing in Tallinn. Also, does anyone know which unit this German the greatest store in the world truck belongs to? The photo is from the same collection. This is just part of the photo; the rest shows German infantry resting by the roadside. The text on the back says "Nach den schweren Angriffen in Na(???)" ("After the heavy attacks in Na(???)"). Could the mark on the right side of the back of the truck be an alternative marking for the 291. Infanterie-Division? Thanks in advance, Björn
Hallo, according this map: http://rkkaww2.armchairgeneral.com/maps ... Aug_41.jpg At 25th August 1941 was tallin attacked by 217.ID (South), 61.ID (Southeast) and 254.ID (East). The Group attacking the Tallin from SW is in russian called as "Svodnaya gruppa" which can mean "Kampfgruppe". Some Soviet sources indicate that there were some elements of 291.ID too. After fall of Tallin there were members of 217.ID which secure the coast (including Tallin itself) in September 1941. So, I quest that photo was taken by some member of 217.ID.
